Detail of the palmetto decoration

Kaiserpfalz
The Domvorhall, or front lobby of the old cathedral, from the front door to the start of the nave. The cathedral was a ruin for a long time and finally torn down, except for this, in the 19th century.

Kaiserpfalz
Inside is the old imperial throne

Kaiserpfalz
The imperial palace built for Henry III in the 11th century. It survived without too much damage into the 19th century when it was restored.

Kaiserpfalz
The far end of the palace. The inside has the old medievel layout, but all the decoration is 19th century German boosterism.

Kaiserpfalz
A model of what it looked like before the restoration. I suspect the roof has been replaced a few times over the centuries.
