The Town
The castle of the dukes of Brunswick-Luneburg. You can still discern the castle shape, but it's been considerably modified over the centuries.

The Town
The inside was not very interesting, too modernized, but there was this ax with a gun barrel for a handle. Note the touch-hole on the side.

The Town
The town was interesting, as this fine house shows.

The Town
Celle also has a street fountain. It starts spouting at one end or the other, and the jets work their way down. It was a little difficult to time the picture just right to get them.

The Town
Another fine house, next door to the first

The Town
And next door to it is this nice house.

The Town
A nice five storey house

The Town
A lovely house with good use of color

The Town
A nice big house, with two "doors" and a beam at the top for hauling furniture up to the top of the house.

The Town
Several brick and half-timbered houses here

The Town
The inscriptions give a history of the house, starting in 1636.

The Town
It looks very plain, but you can see the newer pieces fitted in to repair the structure.

The Town
Very fine painting on this house, from 1602

The Town
Beautiful decoration

The Town
Most half-timbered houses have a light colored plaster, so this dark green is unusual. The figure on the second floor is a mannekin for the shop below. I am happy to have this picture because it is the oldest house in Celle, built in 1526. I was looking all over this area for it, but the tourist map wasn't specific enough to identify it, so I just took lots of pictures, and identified it later.
