The Cathedral Beautifully ornate funerary memorial |
The Cathedral Very nice screen closing off the tombs of some of the bishops |
The Cathedral Looking down the nave, one of the early gothic cathedrals in Germany |
The Cathedral The sides of the nave still show the heavy supports of a romanesque style. |
The Cathedral A model of the cathedral. I couldn't get a good picture of the cathedral outside, because of trees and buildings, so this will stand in. |

The Cathedral Looking into the sanctuary. The altar-like object in the foreground is the tomb of the emperor Otto I, died 973. He financed the construction of the first church here. |
The Cathedral The tomb of Queen Eadgyth (Edith, to you), Otto's wife, at the back of the apse. |

The Cathedral The wise virgins |
The Cathedral The foolish virgins |
The Cathedral Images of Otto and Edith, dating from around 1245. They are in a small shrine-like structure, and it's hard to get a good picture. |
The Cloister Also in Magdeburg is this cloister, dating from the 11th or 12th century. The Michelin guide said it was one of the best preserved cloisters in Germany. I assumed that meant just best. It is well preserved, but I've seen better looking cloisters all over Germany. |
