Town Simple arcade of shops, backed up onto the side of the cathedral. |
Town The cathedral bell tower. That's all of the cathedral you'll see because they closed it down for serious repair work in February. Closed for five, maybe six months. Still closed after seven, and no word about reopening. |
Town Another arcade |
Town More of it |
Town More arcades down this street |
Town Arcades and shuttered windows are typical Italian street sights. The shutters are louvered to let in air even when closed. |
Town Not quite balanced arcade |
Town Another street full of arcades |
Town Common in Germany and France, projecting upper floors are seen less often in Italy |
Town Street of the vaults, an alley with rich merchants' houses on one side, their warehouses on the other, and a walkway between them on a vault over the alley. |

Town And this |
Town They just keep on going |
Town Still more |
Town I finally ran out of them. |
Town Two young women (see the foot on the right and the hand on the left) with bicycles needed a little help with a flat tire. The shopkeeper told them "Wait here, I'll take care of it." And he came out with his air hose. Service with a smile. |
