This is a fantasy story about a young man named Ben who wants to become a wizard. Unfortunately, there haven't been any wizards for hundreds of years. There are none left, and no one to teach him how to become one. All their grimoires are in an unreadable language, with no key to deciphering it. He gets involved with aiding a bunch of rogues rescue a young woman. From then on, things just happen.
Ben doesn't become a full wizard in the main novel, although he shows impressive talents in magic. The short stories describe his, and the rogues', continuing adventures. He becomes a full wizard, opens a school to spread the knowledge of magic around, and has a lot of other fun. Some of the short stories directly continue the main novel's story line. Some are set at a later time, and a few have only the characters to connect them to the original novel.
