This page is about my writing, what it is and maybe why.
I write because I enjoy it. I write because I have a story inside me trying to get out, and it's easier to write it than to strangle it. I write to bother my cat, who likes to sit between me and my keyboard.
A couple of years ago I had a silly idea for a story, one that couldn't possibly be written. I only had an opening line, maybe a paragraph at most. A guy walks into a bar, and there's no one there. Nothing that could be turned into a full novel. The guy is named Sorenson, and he's in a book called The Empty Bar which can be purchased on Amazon HERE.
I was surprised to have written a novel, just like that, with so little to work with. I had so much fun that I wrote another with the same characters. I think it's better written, with a more involved plot and more development of the characters. It's called Van Gogh, Going, Gone and can be purchased on Amazon HERE..
I have now written a third novel about Mr. Sorenson and his adventures. It's called Terror Comes to Berwyn. You may buy all of them on Amazon. You can read the draft version, and other material about Sorenson and his world, HERE.
Then I wrote a fantasy novel, with several short stories attached. The title is Ain't No Such Thing as Magic. The exact form of the final work changed as I worked on it. I decided to treat the short stories as incidents in a second novel, Ain't No Such Thing as Dragons. And more short stories appeared and got lumped together in a collection, Ain't No Such Thing as Ghosts. I am still writing stories about this world. Additional stories about some of the characters in these books, and another long book about the ancient war that destroyed the wizards. The short stories are mostly done. The long book is only half written, if that.
This story was posted online at various story sites. It was not easy to find at any of these places, which is a problem for me as well as for readers. I posted the story to get feedback. If no one sees the book, no one comments on it. So, I'm taking it down from those places and putting it HERE, too. Please read it and tell me what you think of it. Good, bad, indifferent. Offer details, not just "I liked it" or "I hated it."
There's another book, much in need of rewriting, called "The Tree Lady" which you can find HERE. I sent this one out to professional critiquers, and got lots of good advice on how to rewrite it. But it's going to take a lot of work, and I want to write other things right now. I'm starting to think about how to change it, so I might start redoing it soon. Maybe.
I would appreciate any and all comments readers might want to make about these books. Tell me what you would like to see changed. Tell me I'm a terrible author, but please explain why. Tell me what new adventures my characters should have. I may listen to you, it has happened. But please write me at: Send Email.
